Members of the Network Group covering Scotland and Northern England toured this interesting archive in Edinburgh in May
The Northern Group met on Monday 15 May in Edinburgh to visit to the College of Physicians. A tour of the college was conducted by Daisy Cunynghame the Archivist who showed us the main hall where exams used to take place, the downstairs library and the top floor library. We were then introduced to the Librarian in the middle library who showed us a selection of Medical directories dating back to the early 19th century. These are all available for consultation in the library as well as many other documents and books relating to not only the doctors who were members of the college, but often their patients as well.
After the tour, a room was set aside for us to have a meeting. During this we discussed upcoming meetings in Hull in August and Manchester in November as well as several suggestions for the next year. Discussions also covered the demise of WDYTYA Live and Rootstech.
The next meeting will be a historical walking tour of Hull led by Carol Kerry-Green, date to be confirmed.
