AGRA researchers were shown around by the Archivist and enjoyed a pleasant lunch
The AGRA South Central Network Group visited West Sussex Record Office in Chichester on Monday the 9th October 2017. Five members assembled for a tour, given by Matthew Jones, Assistant County Archivist. The tour covered the WSRO search room and a tour of the storerooms.
West Sussex Record Office is a purpose-built archive with sufficient modern computers to cope with heavy demand and two digital scanners for high quality copying. WSRO also has a computer terminal dedicated to the viewing and copying of tithe maps. The unique make-up of Sussex (East and West) was emphasised and how some record collections are shared across the two counties.
Over lunch the AGRA commemorative dinner was discussed with everyone excited about the prospect and keen to attend. Other topics discussed included the 2018 Interview boards, the IHGS Higher Certificate Examination Paper 1 and the usefulness of A3 printers.
The next event will be a meeting in Petersfield on Thursday the 14th December to discuss all things genealogy. Further details will be published in November.
