Changes to opening hours and access fees deferred and subject to public consultation
AGRA (The Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) is pleased to learn that Northamptonshire County Council has listened and reviewed its decision to drastically change the opening hours at its archives and heritage service. We note that the service will be subject to review in the autumn as part of the annual budget preparations and welcome the commitment that any proposals will be subject to public consultation.
AGRA remains concerned about the increasing trend to restrict public access at local records offices, not just Northamptonshire. Each and every one of them are of both national and local importance in the heritage of us all. AGRA is proud of the part it has taken in this campaign along with the wider community of historical researchers who are professionals, academics and highly proficient members of the public.
