On 12th May 2018, following on for the Study Day and AGM, AGRA met for a 50th Anniversary Reception and Dinner for Fellows, Members, Associates and their spouses and guests in Parliament Chamber, The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
In his after dinner speech, the President of AGRA, Patrick Dickinson LVO, Clarenceux King of Arms, recalled the history of the Association.
The Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives was founded in 1968. Proposals for an associatin were first mooted in the early 1960's as a means of establishing standards of competence and ethics and to be a representative body. The inaugural meeting was held on 24 June 1968 at Stationers' Hall.
AGRA is not the largest professional organisation of accredited genealogists in the UK and continues to promote the highest professional standards in the field of genealogy and historical research. It also acts as a representative voice in matters relating to genealogy such as archive services.
