Alison Stephens

I am a professional genealogist based in Birmingham, West Midlands, with 35+ years of genealogy experience, researching my own family history back to the 1600s.  I offer a warm, friendly, reliable, and professional service to those just starting out on their family history journey, or to the more experienced genealogist who has simply met with a dead end and needs a new set of eyes to assist.

I provide one hour's free consultation which includes initial discussions to gather as much information as possible including research already carried out, and to understand what my client's requirements are.

I have an extensive range of expertise, in particular working with court rolls, manorial records, Tithe maps, hearth tax records, paleography, parish registers, census, and Birth/Marriage and Death via the General Registry Office.  I carry out meticulous research and problem-solving, where I challenge every obstacle to find the unfindable, ensuring accuracy in everything I do.

My services mainly include Family History Research in England and Wales, Family Pedigree Charts, Research Reports, Verification of family trees already compiled by my clients, assisting those who have hit ‘a brick wall’ with their ancestry research and I also offer online tutorial sessions.

My mission is to delight my clients by providing quality genealogy services, and results that bring their past to life by delivering a legacy of their ancestry that will be cherished and handed down from generation to generation.  If I inspire more people to get involved in their ancestry, by enticing the curiosity of who they are, then my job is done.

I also specialise in the following subjects of interest:

Greatrex/Gratrex/Greatorex family name (and variations) in South Wales 1770-1920, Sudbury Derbyshire 1600-1800, Derbyshire 1500-1850, Birmingham 1650-1800, Wood/Bull family surnames in Sutton on the Hill and Tutbury 1700-1920, Birmingham 1890-1950, Welch and Wassell family surnames in Lye, Worcester 1700-1900.  Also general research 1550-1837 in the above areas for any other family surnames.

I take pride in delivering client excellence for every project undertaken, to the best of my ability, through hard work, flexibility, passion, and determination.  I am currently studying for the Higher Certificate in Genealogy with the IHGS (Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies) and am a member of The Society for Genealogists.

Please contact me to discuss your needs and to see if I am able to assist.

WOW! That's what I would like to start this review with. We engaged the services of Alison Stephens Genealogy at the start of this year to trace my father-in-law's family history, especially his dad's side as he knew very little about them. The end product presented in an exceptional A4 Book has surpassed all expectations in level of detail and content and you can tell it is a genuine passion of Alison's to keep digging and digging until there is nowhere left to dig! We would wholeheartedly recommend Alison for your family history search and we have been so impressed we are already exploring another search. THANK YOU

Well, what can I say other than “WOW”.  Alison was attentive, professional, and friendly, she went above and beyond our expectations for my Mom's surprise 70th Birthday present. From the initial chat of what we wanted to the presentation of the document was fantastic and we would highly recommend Alison to anyone.  Five Star Rating.

The family and I would like to thank Alison for the excellent service provided.

Trying ourselves for years and getting nowhere proved costly and frustrating.  Finding our family line hundreds of years back was an education and heartwarming.  Thanks again Alison, five-star work!
