I am a professional genealogist, house historian, writer and tutor with an academic background in history, sociology and politics and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education), which qualifies me to teach adults. I also have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Architectural Theory and Practice and a second MA in Biography and Creative Non Fiction.

I have been a full time historical researcher since 1992, including six years at a local record office. I set up my own research company Past Search in 1997. As a qualified tutor I have designed and run numerous family and house history courses from beginners to post-graduate level locally, nationally and online, as well a a wide range of related talks. These include for record offices, the major national family history shows, the Society of Genealogists the University of East Anglia, adult education, libraries and family and local history societies as well as my own online writing your family history and tracing a house history courses online at www.pastsearchlearning.co.uk

I am a published author of several research guides, biographies and local histories, with more pending. One of my specialties is writing and producing family and house history books for clients. I regularly contribute articles, expert answers and book reviews to national magazines and am frequently featured in newspapers, on radio and magazines as an expert and educator in the field. As well as a wide range of private clients across the world, I have assisted several authors, journalists and academic researchers with their background research, including the BBC Who Do You Think You Are? television series and have appeared in two episodes.

Oragnisations and business clients include: New England Historic Genealogical Society in America; Customised Heritage Tours in Australia, local architects, property developers and solicitors; English Heritage; various pubs and hotels and academic researchers.

In the past I have taught adults on Access, A Level, GCSE and NVQ courses in history and humanities related subjects through the Adult Education and HM Prison Services. Whilst working for the latter I received Home Office security clearance.
