I spent a number of years working in the libraries of the BBC and the Press Association before following my passion of history and genealogy and qualifying as a professional genealogist.
I am based in Leeds and am ideally situated to carry out family history research within West Yorkshire, visiting various record offices within the area. I also carry out research at the Borthwick Institute in York or the North Yorkshire County Record Office in Northallerton.
I have been awarded by the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) with both the Higher Certificate in Genealogy and the Diploma in Genealogy. The latter award was granted with distinction, the first ever given by the Institute. I was also a member of the tutor team on the IHGS correspondence course for six years from 2018 to 2024.
I also have a BA (Hons) in Economics and MSc Information Studies (with distinction). I was awarded the Library & Information Research Group (LIRG) national prize for best postgraduate dissertation in 1996.
