Joe Saunders

Historic research for private clients, professional researchers, academics and organisations.

Are you looking for a historical researcher and genealogist based in Britain? I am a professionally-trained historian holding undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in history with Associate Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society and Fellowship of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

My freelance historian services include family, local and property (land and house) history research as well as brickwall problem solving, family tree charts, document transcription, and archival research. I am happy to support your work in any way I can and each project is tailored to your needs. I write up my research for you in report-form and can produce written outputs for print and online publications.

While I can carry out research in any period of British history from the medieval period to the twentieth century, I am particularly experienced and interested in sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth century research.

I travel to archives across England, Scotland and Wales and carry out online research. I am a verified Independent Researcher at The National Archives, Kew, London and regularly visit The London Archives (formerly the London Metropolitan Archives) as well as Westminster City Archives and the British Library.

Please get in touch if you think I might be able to help with your research.

Joe has been responsive to my questions and my priorities, while giving me wise advice. He is reliably knowledgeable about methodology, sources, and interpretation of results. His independent research on my behalf has turned up invaluable information and documentation for the story I am trying to assemble. His reports are on time, well-organized and thorough. He readily shares his professional counsel, while remaining positive and constructively supportive.

Joe Saunders’ work is careful and accurate. He is an excellent communicator, and I very much appreciated his attention to detail as we set up the project, as well as his thoughtful questions to be sure he completed the work as I hoped. I highly recommend him.

I was looking for a genealogist near me and found Joe. Joe's support has been invaluable for my genealogy research. He has delivered everything that I have asked of him and more. I would recommend his services to others who are looking for help finding documents online and visiting archives on your behalf.
