I'm an experienced Genealogist, Family Historian and Local Historian based in Andover, Hampshire.

I hold the Higher Certificate in Genealogy from the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies (IHGS) and have enrolled to start the Diploma in Genealogy with the IHGS in January 2026. I'm committed to the highest professional standards and continue to attend talks and do courses on specific subjects to not only improve my knowledge but also to keep up-to-date with latest developments within the field of Genealogy.

My own family history has entailed me researching close to home in Andover and the nearby villages as well as Wiltshire, Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Lancashire, Northumberland, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. I have also researched branches that emigrated to the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Areas of specific interest to me are Poor Law, Workhouse, Asylum and Criminal Records. The information (if it survives) in these records can tell one a lot about the lives of ancestors.

I'm a member of many family and local history societies as well as the Society of Genealogists. I also occasionally give talks either online or in person.

I contacted Julie regarding my maternal grandfather's family, who lived in St. Mary Bourne – an area of particular interest to Julie. I had already found basic records, including that two ancestors had been committed to Asylums. The main mystery was why my Great-Grandfather's family had split between the 1901 and 1911 Censuses.

Julie expertly took on the challenge. She found information about my Great-Grandfather's committment to an Asylum & why he was committed. This enabled me to find further necessary records. Her subsequent visit to the Hampshire Archives yielded even more insights from Workhouse and other local records. This extensive research led to Julie drafting a comprehensive Case Book for my family.

Without Julie's expert help and dedication, I wouldn't possess the detailed knowledge of my family that I have today. Thank you, Julie!
