I offer high quality genealogical research to both private clients and professional researchers. Services include family trees, bespoke family history research, research in local archives and problem solving. Family tree packages cover all of England and Wales. For local archive research I specialise in research in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex.
I studied with the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) in Canterbury and graduated with both the Higher Certificate in Genealogy (with distinction), and the Diploma in Genealogy, the IHGS Professional Qualification.
Before embarking on a career in genealogy I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a qualified Pharmacist and have a PhD in scientific research.
I am a full AGRA Member and served on both AGRA Council and the AGRA Board of Assessors (2014-2016), assessing the work of those applying to join. I am also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG).
I am a Tutor for the IHGS Correspondence Course, preparing students for the Higher Certificate in Genealogy exam, and an Examiner for the IHGS Diploma.
I also tutor at Pharos Teaching and Tutoring, teaching both genealogy related subjects and a course on how to become a professional genealogist.
My research reports reflect my academic training: all reports have a clear background and objectives that have been agreed with the client, full citations of any sources used, where they were examined and in what format, an analysis of the findings, any conclusions that may be drawn and suggestions for further work where appropriate.
My customer service is focussed on a high level of customer satisfaction. Before beginning any research I will establish with the client what information is already known with certainty, on which to build future research. A program of work is agreed with the client ahead of any research commission.
From large family history projects and family trees to “look-ups” in parish registers, projects of all shapes and sizes are welcome.

I commissioned Karen Cummings to undertake a detailed Family History research project. The research was undertaken within agreed parameters, time-frame and cost. Her detailed Research Report displayed a professional and informative format. It is evident that she applies high professional standards to all aspects of her research and I would endorse her pedigree in the field of Genealogy and Family History. Accordingly, I have unhesitatingly commissioned her to undertake further research on my behalf.
After 45 years of genealogical research in North America, I have learned the importance of careful examination of the original evidence. Dr. Karen Cummings' assistance has been of the highest professional standards. Her knowledge of English records and their location assures me that within the scope of what she has done for me all possible records have been found. Her citations are a model for the rest of us to follow.

I have known Karen Cummings for only a short while, and she has undertaken two projects researching my Suffolk family roots. Both successful, on time and within budget. She is meticulous and highly professional and has extracted information for which I have been searching on and off for about five years. If you are unsure of where to turn to next, Karen is there with guidance as to strategy while letting you feel that you are in control. There is further work to be done and I have no hesitation in saying that Karen will be my first choice as a researcher.
