Midlands Network Group visit to Lincoln
26th July 2026

Researchers from across the East and West Midlands meet up to explore a historic city

Three members of the Midlands Network Group met in person in July with a visit to Lincoln Castle to soak up some history within the walls of this ancient building whose construction was ordered by William the Conqueror.

Highlights were the amazing views from the castle walls over Lincoln, the nearby Cathedral and the surrounding countryside. The group was also able to see a 1215 Magna Carta and 1217 Charter of the Forest held in a purpose-built archive vault as well as touring the Victorian prison within the castle precincts.

Before heading home, a nearby tea room on Lincoln's Steep Hill provided the perfect spot to catch up on the latest genealogy news and enjoy some delicious local plum bread with cheese.

The next meeting of the Midlands Network Group will take place on September 14. This will be a joint meeting with the South West Group held over Zoom.
