Sarah Pettyfer

Hi, I am a qualified professional genealogist, family house and historical researcher and author based in Surrey close to the border with West Sussex, East Sussex and Hampshire. WIth a bcakground as a solicitors and holding both the Higher Certificiate in Genealogy and Diploma in Genealogy from the IHGS (Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies) my research offers a unique blend of legal and genealogical expertise.

I particularly enjoy the challenges of pre-19th century research, which often takes me into the world of court records - the old central westminster courts of equity and common law, along with local manorial courts and quarter qessions and assizes which not only functioned as criminal courts but also conducted roles akin to local government before  the Local Government Act 1888, all of which therefore played various roles in the lives of our ancestors.

I am always excited to take on new projects and help you find your family or house history.

I have easy access to the archives in Surrey, West and East Sussex, Hampshire and London. I am a regular visitor to the National Archives.

I am the author of "Tracing your Surrey Ancestors: A guide for family historians" published by Pen & Sword and also provide a variety of talks. Visit my website for further information.

What a great way to start the weekend by reading through your report! It was a fascinating read and I really appreciated the detailed explanations of the records that had been searched, as they are new to me. Also useful was the information on the other family members living around that time which all helps build up a picture of the family and their life in those far-off years.

Very happy with the report, answered the questions I had about my grandfather and raised many more. A lot more information than family members have been able to find.

The report is brilliant, really fascinating and thorough. I know what I'll be doing over the weekend!

If I get stuck again, I know where to come
