Caroline Wells

I offer local, independent, and affordable family history research covering Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands and the Welsh Borders.

My services include 'look up work' in local archives, constructing family trees, bespoke research, genetic genealogy, dismantling 'brick walls', location photography, providing a local guide and compiling family story photo books or websites.

My philosophy is to help others share the excitement of family history discoveries, feel connected to this special area and learn about their ancestor’s lives. My father’s family have lived in the South Cotswolds since the 1500s. Over the last 25 years I have researched them extensively, together with my husband’s family who were farmers in the North Cotswolds for generations.

I have degrees in History of Art and Religious Studies, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and an Intermediate Certificate in Family History Skills and Strategies (distinction).

I have done ‘look up’ work for genealogical companies and have been a consultant at the Coaches Corner at Roots Tech, London, 2019 and an expert at the online Family History Shows from 2021 to the present. I have been the resident genealogist for events run by Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery and provided background notes for exhibitions.

Through your painstaking research you managed to unearth some obscure family connections.

Graham, National Trust volunteer, Coughton Court

Your work for the museum has helped us to gain a better understanding of the owners of some of our objects. It was thorough and of high quality, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you.
