I am an experienced genealogist, family history researcher and local historian based in Nottinghamshire.
I accept research commissions nationwide and I have a particular interest in the East Midlands where I grew up. I can help you with:
- Family research on one or more surname branches
- Bespoke projects
- Review of existing research
- Record look-ups and research at regional archives
- Transcription of old documents
- Interpreting your autosomal DNA test results
Nottinghamshire Archives and the University of Nottingham's Manuscripts and Special Collections archive are within easy reach. I am also conveniently located to access archives in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire as well as being able to do research at national repositories such as The National Archives.
I have a deep interest in our social history and love exploring the records left by our ancestors. That is why I know that each family's back story is unique. Putting research into context is key to bringing those stories alive. Discovering the events that influenced a person's life and where they lived is vital to deepening our understanding.
I am committed to the highest genealogical standards and on-going professional development. To this end, I gained the Higher Certificate from the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) in 2024 and the IHGS Diploma in Genealogy in 2025. I am also a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists.
"Having had my birth family traced some 14 years ago by a genealogist, sadly now deceased, as time went on, I felt there was something still missing. I was very fortunate to meet Deborah. My story was a bit complicated but she was very thorough, diligent and tireless in reviewing previous research and extending it, providing information that enabled contact with a previously unknown relative. Deborah leaves no stone unturned and is 100% committed. I would recommend her without hesitation."

"Deborah helped me to discover more about my ancestors than I ever thought possible. After not knowing much about my father's side of the family, she helped me fill the missing gaps for which I was very thankful."

"Deborah helped me trace and find a biological cousin who I have since met, and through her I was able to contact my previously known biological father. Deborah also created a family tree for my paternal side and managed to trace back five generations, finding out lots about their lives. I’m so grateful for Deborah’s kind, gentle and patient help. She often went out of her way to explain to me why certain connections had been made (or more importantly, why we couldn’t be certain of some potential connections yet). Deborah is a pleasure to work with and I would wholeheartedly recommend her."
