I am a professional genealogist with 40 years experience in family history research.

I achieved a professional genealogy qualification in 2022 by passing the Pharos Family History Skills and Strategies (Advanced) and I have now embarked on the IHGS Higher Certificate in Genealogy. I am a member of Berkshire Family History Society, I helped to compile the Society’s Members Interests Index and volunteered at the BFHS Heritage Centre. I now transcribe parish registers.

To me family history research is the stepping back through the generations using civil registration, census records, parish registers, wills, newspaper articles and documents contained at the local archives. Using these documents I can locate your ancestors and discover how they lived at the time.

My main area for research is Berkshire, because I am located a short distance from the Royal Berkshire Archives (formerly the Berkshire Record Office) and because some of my ancestors lived in the villages around Newbury and Reading. Other areas of research I can help you with are:-

I have always been interested in history and where my ancestors lived, how they were affected by events that occurred in their life time, how they coped with the bad times and enjoyed the good times. My Mum took a family history course and we decided to research the family together. Most of my ancestors are based mainly in southern England, but I have quite a few in East Yorkshire. It has been an enjoyable experience researching their lives and visiting the places where they lived. I have ancestors who were in the army and fought in wars, some travelled abroad but most of them remained in their towns and villages where they were born and raised. Each one of our ancestors has their story, and I would like to help you unravel that story.
