I am a family history researcher with over 30 years experience.  After retiring early from my job as a Head of Year in a Sunderland secondary school, I set up my research business concentrating on carrying out researching families from around the North East of England.  As well as research, I teach on-line family history to adult classes and give talks on family history methods relating it to the in-depth research I have carried out on my great great grandmother, a story which brings together family and local history from the County Durham area and also puts both into the national perspective of the time. This research has been published by The History Press in three books - "Women of the Durham Coalfield in the 19th Century - Hannah's Story" and has been hugely successful across a wide readership, prompting a follow-up on the family story - "Women of the Durham Coalfield in the 20th Century - Hannah's Daughter", the final book "The Last Women of the Durham Coalfield - Hannah's Grand-daughter was published in March 2024 and the foreword written by Hillary Rodham Clinton, herself descended from a Durham coalfield family of which she is very proud.
