Hello! Thanks for looking at my profile. I hope that we can work together soon so I can help you uncover your family history. Genealogy to me is about uncovering the stories within our family history. Finding out the names of our ancestors is great but it is the details of their lives that are really fascinating.
I have been doing genealogical research for almost 25 years. During that time, I completed the MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographical and Heraldic Studies with Strathclyde University, passing the course with a distinction. I taught Genealogy at Warwick University. I have also had the opportunity to carry out research for BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? (Claire Foy] Since working as a self-employed genealogist I have worked with clients from the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Belgium and, of course, from all around the UK. I have produced full family trees, extensive reports and also just helped to break down brick walls so if you have been researching yourself but have reached a brick wall please get in touch - a fresh pair of eyes often helps.
I am based in the beautiful historic county of Lincolnshire: home of Tennyson, John Franklin, Isaac Newton and the Dambusters. I am very interested in the county’s history, I did projects on the Lincolnshire Rising of 1536 and 19th century Lincolnshire poachers for my MSc. I always enjoy researching Lincolnshire families for my clients but that doesn’t mean that I only do Lincolnshire based research. Recent clients have had families based all over, from 17th century Virginia to 20th century New York and all kinds of places in between. I have access to UK and worldwide genealogical sources: census, birth marriage and death, online parish registers, First World War military records, immigration records, local newspapers. I also have a lot of books and sources available in my personal collection. I won’t be doing all the research from my desk though, where necessary I will visit local archives, libraries, cemeteries and churchyards.
I am now available at Caistor Arts & Heritage Centre on the 2nd Wednesday of each month between 10 and 12 so if you are local please pop in and see me. Sometimes it gets busy so please email me to let me know you are coming and I can advise about timings!
I receive a lot of enquiries for DNA research but it is not my speciality and I don't want to waste your time and money. There are many genealogists on this lovely site who do specialise in sorting out complex DNA questions - finding birth parents, working out illegitimacy etc. Please use the Find a Researcher form on the home page.

After finding out that l was adopted a few years ago l started to research both my biological parents and in the case of my birth mother everything went well and within months I'd discovered a tremendous amount about her and her life. But in the case of my birth father bar the basics he remained a mystery. Although l knew he'd passed away some years ago l still needed to know who he was so l decided to contact a genealogist and after searching the internet the website for Family History Diggers stood out.Contact was first by telephone and then email and all times Nicola was so professional. After a few days l recieved an update then just one week later the report arrived and l was totally blown away. It was comprehensive, detailed and covered all aspects of my father's life, family and included notes on his military service and it arrived just before Christmas! For several years I have been looking into uncertain issues regarding my family history and decided it was time to seek professional advice.
I looked at Nicola’s online advertisement and decided to take a chance. I set out some basic information and issues concerning the parentage of some of my ancestors in the 1870’s.
Nicola responded quickly to my email, explained the procedure, time- line and cost. She then asked supplementary questions which culminated in her excellent report, which confirmed several of my thoughts. Her research also highlighted some issues I had not even thought about, such as my Great Grandfather’s military history and his obituary in The Grantham Journal which highlighted his status in the community.
