Simon Hutchison

Genealogist and Family Historian.

My qualifications include a BA (Hons) History, 1st Class, from the Open University which featured a module in local history and I have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Genealogical, Heraldic & Palaeographic Studies with Strathclyde University. I have participated in transcribing projects for Suffolk Family History Society and Greenwich Maritime Museum.
My interests include the history of British India and I am a member of FIBIS. I also have a one-surname one-town hobby site which tracks the genealogy of my grandmother's surname 'Whiting' in Haverhill, Suffolk.

As well as producing thoroughly-sourced genealogy and narrative family history reports that make excellent use of historical context, I am also happy to assist clients with specific 'brick wall' problems regarding their ancestry.

I have much experience of researching ancestry in the East of England as well as South East, London, Middlesex, Irish, Jewish, Quaker, Scottish Borders, Australian, Merchant Navy and Military ancestry and I have been able to assist people researching British India ancestors as a result of my own experience of exploring family connections there.

"I greatly appreciate your assistance in filling in the many gaps and answering so many questions regarding the English branch of my family tree. Your knowledge and expertise proved invaluable in helping me to piece together an amazing story of my ancestor’s involvement with the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. Cannot wait to tell the family."

"You are a genius - I have paid someone else before to look at this and they got nowhere (and I really rate them too)  ... You should be a detective. I am a pretty good investigative journalist but you knock spots off me! Thank you so so much"

"Thank you so much for the information you found about John G., Sgt 2nd Troop Horse Artillery...   I too feel he is the most likely candidate for Ann’s father... Both Kate and I thank you for trying to find the missing link.  We are both very impressed with your reports on all your research.  We would recommend you to other people who needed research into their family trees."
